About Us

Charleston Women in Tech is a collaborative effort of Charleston’s women leaders, educators, and tech professionals to support and mentor women of all ages in the technology industry.

Founded in September 2014 as a small group of women connecting during happy hours, Charleston Women in Tech has grown exponentially to unite thousands of local tech leaders, professionals, educators, students, partners, and advocates. We aim to advance diversity across all STEM by creating opportunities for all.

Celebrating 10 Years of Women In Tech In Charleston!

This year we celebrate a decade of empowering women in technology. We reflect and take pride in championing diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Starting in the Charleston Digital Corridor building near East Bay and Calhoun, we’ve achieved numerous milestones each year:

2015

Our meet ups grew rapidly leading to an invitation to White House in April 2015

2016

Launched CodeOn coding classes at a Rosemont community laundromat, creating a vibrant learning environment.

2017

Introduced our Mentor/Mentee Program with a successful kick off at College of Charleston, fostering lasting connections.

2018

Hosted our inaugural Holiday Mingle at Blackbaud, marking the beginning of an annual partnership.

2019

Teamed up with National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and BoomTown! to launch the first Stemapalooza event.

2020

Seamlessly navigated pandemic restrictions through engaging virtual meetings and book club.

2021

Co-hosted Women in Industry Day (WIID) with the Society of Women Engineers at Trident Technical College, expanding our annual impact each year since.

2022

Established the Mary Beth Westmoreland & Valerie Sessions Scholarship sending three members to the Grace Hopper Conference in 2023.

2023

Secured a grant from One To One | Women Coaching Women enabling six virtual Lunch ‘n Learns focused on empowering women.

2024

Expanded our community impact through philanthropic initiatives and sponsorship of professional development opportunities.
